#15 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot - Red A4+5 or A6+5 variation.

Outcome: Advantage to Black

  1. C2=5  C8=5    2. H2+3  H8+7    3. R1=2  R9+1    4. A4+5  …………

Red A4+5 was common in old days.
For this variation, what is the best move for Black?

  4. …………  R9=6

Correct move!
If Red played A6+5, Black would respond with R9=4. The movement of Black's chariot is depend the movement of Red's advisor.

Current board status analysis:

1) A4+5 is consider not efficient, because advisor is not a main piece. According to basic Xiangqi opening principle, player should develop his main pieces as soon as possible. However, advisor is not a main piece, so it is no hurry for Red to develop it.

2) Black's chariot is targeting Red's king path. It is consider a threat.

Outcome: Advantage to Black
